Look after your boiler and save money on heating bills

Your boiler is at the heart of your home, providing heating and hot water whenever you need it.  No matter how old your boiler is, you can help it work well by looking after it in the right way - and save money into the bargain!

Follow heateam’s quick tips:

  1. Keep your boiler ticking over
Did you know that boilers are most likely to break down in the autumn?  Running your heating for 15 minutes once a month during the summer will keep it running and lessen the chance of a breakdown when you switch it on in the autumn.
  2. Turn the thermostat down
By turning your thermostat down by one degree you could cut your heating bills by 10% per year - helping the environment into the bargain. (Source: The Energy Saving Trust)
  3. Insulate against heating bills
Keep your hot water tank insulated and you could prevent heat loss and save money. An insulating jacket only costs a few pounds, so wrap it up!
  4. Fit a carbon monoxide detector
Install a British Standard approved carbon monoxide detector to warn you if there's a poisonous leak from your gas boiler or appliances - it could save your life, as could having an annual service on your boiler.
  5. Arrange an annual service
Just like your car, your boiler can benefit from an annual service to keep it in good, safe working order. A well-maintained boiler is not only less likely to break down, but could also save you money on your heating bills. Find out more about annual servicing here.

A boiler service must only be carried out by qualified, Gas Safe registered engineers, such as a heateam engineer. Sign up for a heateam Premier Plan and you can include an annual service - find out more here.
