Keep your boiler safe with an annual service

Your Baxi , Potterton & Main boiler have all been built to give you and your home years of great service.  But to keep it in good working order, it's important to give it the right care.

According to Gas Safe Register, the industry safety body in Great Britain and the Isle of Man (replacing CORGI in April 2009), gas boilers should have an annual service to reduce the risk of a gas leak or a carbon monoxide leak.

Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas that has no colour or smell, and is therefore undetectable by humans.  It can cause many unpleasant symptoms and can even prove fatal.  Always use an official Gas Safe registered engineer to carry out your boiler service, as only they can be trusted to do the job safely.  Under no circumstances should you tamper with the workings of your boiler, or attempt to service it yourself.

Of course, you may notice signs that your boiler needs servicing before its annual check is due.

Stay alert for the following:

  • Your boiler does not work properly
  • The pilot light (where visible) burns with a lazy yellow or orange flame instead of a crisp blue flame
  • The pilot light keeps going out
  • You can see soot or yellow/brown staining anywhere around your boiler
  • There is increased condensation inside windows

If you notice these, or any other unusual symptoms, make sure your boiler is checked over as soon as possible by a qualified engineer such as a heateam engineer.
